It was a while ago we decided we wanted an alligator downspout statue. When I found it for this house, I discovered it was by Toscano Design, and they had other things we actually liked better. We have a dragon, too.

When Margaret Wander Bonnano died a few days ago, it reminded me of how much I enjoyed her marvelous Trek novels. In my 20s, I read everything available at the time. It was a lot. I’ve decided to start over from the beginning. There are about 700 books now. This is gonna take a while.



Our little gallery room is between the living room and kitchen, so we get to walk through many times a day and see a the pretty things we’ve collected over the years.

Ray saved us when we moved to Maryland a few years ago. We were the lowest we’d ever been when this tiny stray found us. Then he got cancer, so we saved him back. He brings me joy every single day.

When I did this project in Florida, we still had Portia’s sister, Ellen. We miss her. Well, Portia probably doesn’t. They were not friends. P has had a hard life, but keeps chugging along. Chugging worms, that is.

I love picking up old, cheap hats from antique stores. This is half the collection. They inspire me to make characters like Bad Granny.

I like to sort things. I used to sort buttons, but most batches are just white shirt buttons. Boring! Also, my button collection became prodigious.
So now I get unsorted piles of jewelry. I sit and sort and untangle for hours. While most of the batch will be resold, I keep…well, let’s just say my jewerly collection is becoming prodigious.

I don’t read anymore, though that is my 40-year-old deck in the box at the top. I just love them for the art. I had a good collection in the 80s, but gave it away. Decided recently to start again. With artists on the internet, the possibilities are endless!
